The entire movie takes place over a single day—October 1st, the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi. In Tamil Nadu, Gandhi Jayanthi is a "dry day" when liquor shops are closed. The film follows the frantic, humorous, and sometimes poignant events at a typical TASMAC (state-run liquor shop) bar as patrons rush to get their fix before the closure.

To maintain authenticity, the director reportedly used real-life patrons of local bars for several supporting roles.
